Explorers

WHO – We are the First Doha Oryx Explorers; Both girls and boys aged 14 – 18 are welcome to join.

WHAT – With the support, direction, and guidance of Unit leaders, Explorer Scouts are encouraged to lead themselves, design their own programme and work towards the top awards that Scouting offers.

With exciting prospects like being a part of camps and expeditions both at home and abroad; adventurous activities such as mountaineering, parascending, and offshore sailing; Explorers offers fun and adventure for all.

ACTIVITIES – We play games (such as SPUD and blind tazer, just to name a couple!) and participate in many activities, whilst also working towards badges, learning knots and going on camps.

On camp we build fires, sleep in tents and tell riddles – it’s fun because we can all have a good time while it gets dark.

When we go on camp we usually go to the desert with the scouts. We have an end of (school) year party, combined with the scouts, where we go bowling or similar activity.

We work towards the Platinum Chief Scout Award. This award is very similar to The DoE (Duke of Edinburgh) and the two awards can be interchangeable.

The DoE has 3 levels bronze, silver and gold. They take 6 months, 12 months and 18 months respectively. They require mapping skills, hiking, sports and more.

We have even written this page and uploaded it ourselves to the 1st Doha Scout Group website; another example of our varying activities and skilled learned!

 WHEN – We meet on a Tuesday evening 5.00pm – 6.45pm.

WHERE – We meet at Compass International School Gharaffa Campus on Waab Al Abareq St.

If you like how it sounds, come and give it a try!

New leaders are always wanted.
